Siemens Is Using Salesforce AI to Rethink Lead Qualification

Originally reported by Salesforce

For large sales organizations, generating leads is only half the challenge. Determining which leads deserve a salesperson's attention can be just as difficult.

Siemens, the global technology and industrial company, is addressing that challenge through its expanding partnership with Salesforce and the deployment of Agentforce to automate inbound lead engagement and qualification.

The company was receiving more than 2,500 unqualified leads every month, creating a significant challenge for its sales organization. With 18,000 sellers worldwide, identifying promising opportunities and directing them to the right people is critical to sales productivity.

Two AI Agents, One Sales Process

Siemens has introduced two AI agents that work together within its inbound sales process.

An engagement agent initially interacts with incoming prospects, identifying those who express interest and moving them forward. A second qualification agent then assesses those prospects before routing the strongest opportunities to the appropriate salesperson.

The approach is designed to reduce the administrative burden on sales teams while ensuring that qualified prospects receive attention more quickly.

Rather than simply automating a repetitive task, Siemens is using AI to support an important part of its sales process: determining which opportunities are worth pursuing.

The initiative also demonstrates how Salesforce is extending Agentforce beyond customer service and into core sales activities.

The Importance of Getting the Sales Process Right

The Siemens example highlights an important consideration for organizations exploring AI-powered selling.

Automation is only as effective as the process it supports.

Lead qualification requires clearly defined criteria, consistent data and an agreed understanding of what makes a prospect sales-ready. Without these foundations, AI agents risk making inconsistent decisions or passing poorly qualified opportunities to salespeople.

For sales leaders, the lesson is not simply to adopt AI. It is to examine how leads are managed today, identify where time is being wasted and establish the processes that technology can improve.

As AI becomes more capable of handling early-stage sales activities, the role of salespeople may increasingly shift toward engaging qualified prospects, developing relationships and advancing opportunities.

The real measure of success won't be how many tasks AI can automate. It will be whether those capabilities translate into better sales outcomes.
