All right. So, now that you've got a good understanding of Sales Cloud and what we're going to be doing in this course, it's time to go ahead and jump right into Salesforce and start learning the lay of the land.
The first thing we need to do is log you in.
Whoever in your company set up the account would have received an email from [support@salesforce.com](mailto:support@salesforce.com). The subject would have been, “Welcome to Salesforce. Verify your account.”
If you can't locate that email, you need to reach out to your Salesforce Account Executive and have them resend it.
Once you find that email, click the Verify Account button and then set up your password. This will take you into what we call the production environment, which is the normal view for your end users.
Now, to get into Salesforce at any time, you simply need to go to login.salesforce.com and enter your username and password.
Salesforce has very strict security measures, so you and your users will get a new five-digit security code to enter anytime you are logging in from a new browser.
The beauty, of course, of this system is that you can log into Salesforce from any internet browser, anywhere, and never have to download anything onto your computer. That's the whole idea behind the cloud.
All right, you're in Salesforce. Right on!
Now, the key button for an admin is the Setup wheel, or cog, right here.
Only the admin will be able to use this, and it will allow you—and only you—access to configure Salesforce.
Click on the cog and then click Setup. This will open a new browser tab.
And this, my friends, is where the magic happens.
As you can see, right now we're in the Home tab of Setup. The Quick Find box on the left lets us search for any setting that we may want to configure.
You can begin typing the setting, and it starts to pull up results as you key in the letters. In upcoming lessons, we'll be coming here a lot to configure several of these settings.
Next to the Home tab is the Object Manager. There's that term “object” again.
Like I said, we'll be spending time in an upcoming lesson learning more about objects, what they are, and the key ones that your sales team will be using.
The last thing I want to show you in Setup is how to get back to production in case you close the other tab.
As you're setting up Salesforce, we recommend keeping both tabs open so you can easily jump back and forth.
If the production tab gets closed, however, we click this nine-dot box up here in the left corner. I call it a Rubik's Cube. Others call it a waffle.
Then we'll select Sales.
Each of these selections represents a different application, or app, within Salesforce. We'll also cover apps in an upcoming lesson.
This will take you back into production. And from there, of course, you can always get back to Setup by clicking the Setup cog.
Okay, now that you know how to get into Salesforce and access the admin settings, we can start working on setting up your own version of Salesforce.
The next lesson covers the basic configuration settings.
See you then!
